The amount of play that "thunderstruck" gets in football stadiums from high school to the league should push them in to the level of worthiness. I wouldn't want to see Metallica.

i don't know...AC/DC isn't really "Global" enough for me.
They appeal to the folks that happened to have owned a jean jacket....
(and wore it with pride - Iron Maiden patch not incl.)
...at some point in your life.

I think there are a lot more people Who (pun) know the CSI theme song than the opening lick for Thunderstruck.

At this point, an artist like Sheryl Crow who isn't old enough to collect Social Security IS going younger.

I'm holding out for Slipknot. Ant time I can hear a beer keg at the SB, I'm in heaven. If they're too scary, send 'em out as Stone Sour.

The point is, having artists perform that are still in their prime and capable of the kind of performance that would be expected (or should be) at an event like the Super Bowl. Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Matchbox 20, would be acts I would think of, as being both popular enough as well as still at the top of their game. The Who is WAYYYY past it. The songs sounded awful, as the singing was brutal. As I stated in the call, there is a reason that MLB did away with the old timers games. It was nice to see the old players tip their cap and smile, but they couldn't play the game well enough to be entertaining anymore and it was sometimes embarrassing. Thus, they did away with those games. It's no different when they get groups like the Who performing at a level such as they did. The halftime acts should be the most popular comtemporary artists, at the pinacle of their career's, not old guys that can't perform at the level that made them popular decades ago.

Matchbox 20?

I guess. I mean, why not. Give them the halftime show. After all, they were huge for like 3 weeks in 2002.

I am predictable if nothing else. Wanna go to a Matchbox 20 show with me? We'll have our venerable pick of the 31 year old Rob Thomas castoffs litter.

No, I think I'm going to the Dru Hill concert that weekend.

Maybe he means Rob Thomas, Frank. When Smooth hit it was everywhere from your dentist to the fucking Jimmy Lube.

I freaked some people out recently by admitting that I "celebrated his entire catalogue" back in the day. Haven't heard anything other than a few odd singles since c. 2002 or so.

Rob Thomas is the singer of Matchbox 20. "Smooth" was on a Santana album, 'Supernatural'

The scene: February 6, 2011 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX. A hush comes over the crowd as the heavily guarded mystery Super Bowl halftime show is about to begin. Speculation has been going on for weeks, but when the crowd hears the opening to AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long, they think they know what they're about to see. Instead, they see this....

Yes-...Rob Thomas these days. I got to see him at the House of Blues with Anna Nalick and he was an outstanding live performer. I assume that most people still associate him with Matchbox 20 though. If he got such a gig, I'm sure he would do a lot of the old Matchbox 20 stuff, as well as his solo stuff.

I'm a huge Matchbox Twenty fan...that being said, I find even considering them for the halftime show to be hilarious...

Best half-time show ever as they won't need to pull these people out of the grave to give them any "audio assistance" to hit their best notes.

Dr. Ken, I am surprised you didn't try to sneak a Darius Rucker number in there... :P
